Offered here is a Shelf /Desk  "The Plato Clock" flip digital clock by well known high quality American clockmaker firm "ANSONIA".  Very rare Rectangular & Beveled glass model.  Made Circa 1905.  Movement is original to the clock.  It is Ansonia factory, stamped/ signed.  First Digital clock patented in 1903.  USA patents held by Ansonia and European by Eugene. L. Fitch / Ever Ready co.  Clock is in working condition and great time keeper. Cleaned and Inspected.  Ticks away strong.  All numbers are original, present and flip as it should.  Each number card was gently hand cleaned and the inside of the crystal display panels polished.

90% of antique "The Plato" clocks, you see here on Ebay, have cards messed up and warped - bended and twisted from heat and sun exposure.  It's Impossible to repair and straighten easy breakable celluloid. Clocks with bent / warped even slightly number plates will never flip correctly.  Perfectly straight number cards are the critical component of the plato clock.  Considering the age it is in great condition and well preserved timepiece.  Height is about 160mm. Base is 80 x70 mm.  Crystal beveled glass displays beautifully with chips on the top/side of 2 of the glass panels. (side and rear)

The original patina of the brass body has not been disturbed while the inside of the case, the digit cards and display crystals were painstakingly hand cleaned.  There are some imperfections at the edge of the crystals.  This is the grandfather of all flip clocks and would make a great working addition to your clock collection.
