Dublin Eucharistic Congress Badge 1932 This is a Dublin Eucharistic Congress medal from 1932. It has a gilt metal cross and lettering against a blue enamel background. There is an indistinct makers mark on the back.
The front of this lovely antique brass religious brooch pin is made with an openwork cross design with a beautifully detailed presentation of the chalice and host of The Holy Eucharist. The outer rim is finished with deep blue enameling with gold lettering indicating that the brooch is a souvenir of the Eucharistic Congress held in Dublin, Ireland in 1932. The obverse has a plain shiny finish with a manufacturer's mark in Dublin. It closes with a simple "C" clasp
The 31st International Eucharistic Congress, held in Dublin 22–26 June 1932, was one of the largest eucharistic congresses of the 20th century. Ireland was then home to over three million Catholics and It was selected to host the congress as 1932 was the 1500th anniversary of Saint Patrick's arrival. The theme was "The Propagation of the Sainted Eucharist by Irish Missionaries".
